a photographic study of arbutus menziesii, known more commonly as pacific madrone or madrona.

the purpose of a photographic study is to create images in the manner of sketching; not to create photographs with the intention of exacting compositions or artistic elements and technical work in mind. rather, the photographs are done in an exploratory fashion of roughly capturing multiple angles, elements, and assemblages of a subject. it is done best with no preconceived vision of the final images, approached instead with deep curiosity and openness for playful and imperfect spontaneity.

i feel i’ve succeeded in a study when many of the photographs feel like distorted, fleeting glimpses on the edges of dreams.
